Effective Communication Techniques For Health Care Facilities Managers

As unique and varied as the competencies are to function in our role as effective facilities administrators, the ability to communicate effectively nears the top of the list. In the development of the dozens of position profiles I've compiled, the ability to communicate within the given culture of an organization maintains a prominent place in the set of required skills.

Conversely, I've observed the demise of many talented facilities managers predicated on the inability to translate issues into a concise and timely transfer of information. There exists a perception that organizational communications is not one of an "engineer's" strongest areas of expertise.

Complex Information

Effective Communication Techniques For Health Care Facilities Managers

Because of the unique nature of the role, the healthcare facilities manager possesses a challenging audience with an equally challenging message. With a vocabulary very distinct from the clinical, fiscal, and governing world, our communications commonly involve a dialect of codes, infrastructure, and engineering terms that are unfamiliar and often not understood. Projects we deal with involve many disciplines and the results are contingent upon a clear understanding of the strategies we develop and communicate.

The best communication strategy is to establish "need to know" expectations at all levels. Many executives require ongoing and continuous updates, while many of our "customers" would prefer only information that directly affects their area of accountability. It is best to set communication expectations case by case and be diligent in fulfilling this anticipation.

Good News, Bad News

Regardless of your audience, keep communications relevant and focused. As the saying goes "Few care about storms you encountered, but rather the safe arrival in port". In our unique world of facilities operations, many communications are critical to the success of the organization's mission. With that criticality, comes a tendency "sensationalize" the communication of the contributing issues. Do not editorialize your message by providing only the information that is relevant and pertinent to the listener.

Offer Solutions

Our colleagues look to us for solutions. Don't dwell on the problems that contributed to the situation, but rather offer a series of recommendations that prioritize available solutions. Communicate viable options backed by sound justification as well as a clear picture of the pros and cons of individual recommendations.

Effective communication is an art and is crucial to any successful relationship. Work to design effective communication skills based on your organization's needs and implement a delivery strategy that fulfills the needs of the listening audience.

Crime Scene Forensics - Analyzing Broken Glass Found at a Crime Scene

Suppose a victim called police and notified that somebody committed a drive-by shooting on his house. Crime scene investigators (CSI's) then show up to investigate the crime. One of the things they look at is the broken glass through which the bullet or bullets pass. Such evidence can tell a story to the technician with a keen eye for the details found in broken glass.

The manner in which glass breaks many times presents clues with regard to how it was broken. For instance, glass that was broken by a speeding baseball will have a different pattern of fracture than glass that was broken by a speeding bullet.

Particular break characteristics allow a forensic scientist to ascertain the direction from which the impact came. They include a special kind of stress-fracture lines called conchoidal lines. Conchoidal lines are lines that emanate from the site of impact. When viewing glass through its thickness, these lines curve out and away from the point of impact in a curve resembling a seashell curve.

Crime Scene Forensics - Analyzing Broken Glass Found at a Crime Scene

If the investigator takes a closer look at the conchoidal lines, he can see tiny lines that radiate almost 90 degrees from the conchoidal lines. These fracture lines are known as hackle marks.

Cracks in windows and other flat plates of glass such as windshields tend to radiate and concentrate. When viewing the glass perpendicularly from the surface, one can see radial cracks that radiate outward from the impact point. Picture this like the spokes that radiate from the center of a wheel.

Again, when viewing the glass perpendicularly from the surface, one would also find cracks that concentrate around the impact point and are called concentric cracks. Concentric cracks are cracks that form progressively larger circles around the impact point. Picture this as a circle within a circle within a circle....all surrounding the impact point.

If a speeding bullet strikes a window and penetrates it but does not completely break it, the destruction may leave behind a hole accompanied or not accompanied by the aforementioned fracture lines.

On one side of the impact (the entrance side), the hole will be small and clean. On the other side of impact (the exit side), a small conical piece of glass would have been removed. CSI's would normally view the glass from both sides to determine a bullet's trajectory; i.e. whether the bullet was fired from the outside of the house in as in the case of a drive-by shooting or vice versa.

The next time you watch your favorite CSI or Forensic Files TV show, you will have a better understanding of how broken glass is studied in a crime lab in order to bring a perpetrator to justice.

Cyber Bullies

The technology of today has brought a database of unlimited potential to the finger tips of everyone all over the world. This database is the internet. The internet has proved an invaluable tool for communication, research, business, and even fun. But this technology has also invented a new way of hurting people (especially teens) and is much worse than anything we have experienced before. Teenagers have turned to the internet to intimidate, scare, and hurt their peers.

When I was in high school cyber bullying was just starting to become popular. Usually when people got in a argument, fight, etc..., they would work it out face to face. It was a very rare thing that someone would turn to the internet to hurt someone. Now though, teenagers are turning to the internet even when there is no problem. They do it because they think it's funny, or they do it just because they are bored. It's amazing to me that you would write insults about someone and post it in a place where the whole world can see it. What ever happened to common decency? Are people really becoming such cowards that they can't deal with their problems in person? I would like to tell you a story of a girl I know who had a cyber bully post derogatory things about her. For all you cyber bullies out there I want you to realize just how much pain you inflict on people, and for everyone else I want to show you how she dealt with her problem, and what you can do to help yours if you to are a victim.

A few years ago in high school I was friends with a girl named Erin. She was always made fun off all throughout high school for no good reason like I'm sure many of you have been or are, but dealt with it. She never let any of it bother her. One day I asked her how she could take being made fun of all the time. Her response was "I don't care what other people think of me, it's what I think of me that counts. After high school I'm never going to have to see these people ever again. I just keep my eyes on college so I can go to a place where people actually want to learn, and garbage like half the people in this school aren't allowed in." These words stuck with me, and I still use the principals behind them to help me in current problems. Then one day she got in to an argument with another girl who was making fun of her. They got in to a screaming match in the hallway and had to be separated. A few days went by and it seemed like the matter was over, but then fliers advertising a blog started to appear around the school. They were made on regular paper, and contained no information except the blog url. I never paid any attention to them because I didn't know what they were, and between all my sports practices and homework I didn't really have the time. In turns out that I should have taken a look at the blog because I might have been able to make a difference. I didn't though, and a few days later Erin committed suicide. When I found out I was devastated, and surprisingly so were all the people who had made fun of her all those years. They didn't want her to kill herself, they were just having fun. A few days after I heard the news, I heard a rumor that she had taken her life because she was so upset and distraught about some internet blog about her. That is when I made the connection between the fliers in school, and what had happened to Erin.

Cyber Bullies

I finally got around to going to the blog and was so upset with what I saw. The girl she got in an argument with had taken obscene pictures of her sleeping, and in the shower, and had posted them on the internet. The blog also repeatedly made fun of her and used phrases like "she should kill herself" and "no one likes her, wish she was dead, no one would miss her." This just drove Erin over the edge, and she did the unthinkable. She realized that people all over the world had now seen her naked, and read that everyone hates her, and it was just to much. A few days later the girl who made the blog (I won't use her name for obvious reasons) was arrested. But, to everyone surprise she was released only having to do 100 hours of community service. The police said Erin killed herself, it was her choice and the other girl may have pushed her over the edge but what she did is not illegal. That girl who made the blog got off with just a warning, a slap on the wrist, but she would end up paying a higher price. A few months later Erins older brother who I played football with killed her. He was then sent to prison for the rest of his life.

Sounds like something out of book or soap opera right. Well it really happened, and I am much wiser for it. I realize just how much damage a cyber bully can cause, and is the reason why I have chosen to write this article. Now earlier in the article I made the statement that I would show you how to deal with a cyber bully if you to are a victim. I am a man of my word, so if you have a problem with a cyber bully here is what you should do.....

1. Go to the police!

In recent years the punishment for crimes like the one above has increased. If you go to the police the blog can be taken offline, and the person who made the blog will be arrested, and prosecuted.

2. Contact the blog site

To make a blog someone needs to use a blog host. Usually if you visit the blog the host of the blog will be listed, and will have a way to contact them. Send an email to the blog host and tell them you found a blog used for bullying another person. In most cases the blog will be removed in just a few hours after they receive the complaint.

3. Go to your principal

Tell your principal that someone made a blog of you, and is using it to hurt you. Your principal should then (in most cases) contact the police, contact the blog owners parents, and in some cases the person who made the blog will be expelled from school

4. Go tell your parents

It's not healthy to keep all this hurt and pain to yourself. You need to talk about it before you fall in to depression and you start to think about doing what Erin did. If you go to your parents and tell them what happened they can help you emotionally, as well as help you pursue the matter with the police and the school.

Flu Shot Ingredients

The major flu shot ingredients are dead influenza viruses. There may be any number of different flu viruses circulating at any one time, but pharmaceutical companies only choose three as annual flu shot ingredients. Even if you take an annual flu shot, you could still contract another flu virus and still come down with the flu. So, it is still important to protect your immune system and practice good health habits. Common flu vaccine side effects include body aches, low grade fever and soreness at the point of injection. There are some rare, but serious flu vaccine side effects that concern many people.

In addition to the major flu shot ingredients, pharmaceutical companies add preservatives. Until recently there were no preservative free flu shots. The addition of the preservative thimerosal to flu shot ingredients has caused illness and injury. Thimerosal is mercury based and is believed to have been the cause of flu vaccine side effects in many people. Of major concern is the increase of autism in recent years and many researchers and doctors believe that thimerosal, a known neurotoxin, used as flu shot ingredients and in other childhood vaccines is the cause.

Some researchers and doctors believe that flu shot ingredients, including thimerosal and aluminum, increases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease. This, of course, is not one of the common flu vaccine side effects and since Alzheimer's does not develop immediately after taking the shot, then the link can not be proven. A prominent physician and researcher showed that people who had five consecutive influenza vaccinations between the years 1970 and 1980 were ten times more likely to develop Alzheimer's than were individuals who had none, one or two.

Flu Shot Ingredients

It is believed that some people cannot shed mercury from their systems and it builds up in their brains causing nerve and brain damage. In addition, some people are allergic to mercury and thimerosal and can experience serious allergic reaction as flu vaccine side effects. Some states have banned mercury from flu shot ingredients intended for use in children and pregnant women. But, while health advocates have petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to ban thimerosal from flu shot ingredients, nothing has been done at this time. Many manufacturers continue to add thimerosal to their flu shot ingredients.

The dead influenza viruses which are the major flu shot ingredients are grown in chicken eggs. So, people who are allergic to chicken eggs could have serious flu vaccine side effects. Some people blame the onset of chronic fatigue on flu vaccine side effects, but there is no scientific research supporting this belief.

The influenza nasal spray vaccine is chosen by some as an alternative to the flu shot. Ingredients in the nasal spray include weakened live influenza viruses. The common nasal spray flu vaccine side effects include runny nose, headache, sore throat and cough. The nasal spray flu vaccine is preservative free, but is only approved for use in healthy people between the ages of 5 and 49.

Concern over flu shot ingredients and flu vaccine side effects raise questions in the minds of some people as to whether or not healthy people, with a healthy immune system even need an annual influenza vaccine. Alternatives include the use of natural immunity boosting products. Some feel that these products may even reduce the likelihood of contracting the flu, the common cold and other viruses. Most natural immune system boosters have no unwanted side effects and carry none of the risks associated with flu vaccine side effects and flu shot ingredients. To learn more about immune system boosters and for more information about the common cold, influenza and other viruses, visit www.immune-system-booster-guide.com.

Do Flu Shots Have Mercury In Them?

Do flu shots have mercury in them? Yes, says the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, commonly referred to as the CDC, in their facts on the flu shot question and answer guide.

Opinions about whether mercury in flu shots is a threat to human health may vary, but no one can deny the facts on the flu shot. Mercury is used in the manufacturing of and as a preservative in most flu shot vaccines. Even those vaccines that are labeled preservative free have trace amounts of mercury left over from the manufacturing process, but because the content is too low to act as a preservative, they are called preservative free.

Questions like "do flu shots have mercury in them" may be asked for many reasons. Mercury contamination in fish and the environment is of great concern. Mercury poisoning can cause illness and death. Some people have severe allergic reactions to mercury. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, meaning that it damages or destroys nerve tissues. Mercury has been linked to autism and Alzheimer's.

Do Flu Shots Have Mercury In Them?

The facts on the flu shot presented by the CDC maintain that there is "no convincing evidence of harm" from mercury in flu shots, but there was sufficient evidence for New York to pass a law in 2006 banning thimerosal (a mercury based preservative) from flu shots intended for use in children and pregnant women. But, even with this ban, the answer to "do flu shots have mercury in them" in New York is still, yes. As previously stated trace amounts of mercury are present even in preservative free flu shots.

In 1999, the Public Health Service agencies, the American Academy of Pediatrics and vaccine manufacturers agreed that mercury should be reduced or eliminated from vaccines as a precautionary measure. But, still the answer to the question "do flu shots have mercury in them" is yes. The facts on the flu shot presented by the CDC maintain that the best protection from influenza is the annual flu shot, but ultimately it is a personal choice.

The 2010 Ford F-150 Has a Host of Engine Sizes

The all-new Ford F-150 has a wealth of engine options that is suited to any consumer's driving taste. These engines range from small, economy-minded engines, to huge, monster truck V8s. No matter what you are looking for, the new 2010 Ford F-150 has an engine option that you need.

The first engine that we are going to take a look at is the 4.6L V8. This motor puts out a respectable 202 horsepower at 4350 RPM. It also puts out 260 ft lb of torque, which is enough to haul almost anything. This engine is a carryover from the previous year. This motor is an all-aluminum engine. Users of this engine can expect to get anywhere from 15 miles per gallon while driving in the city, to 20 miles per gallon when driving on the highway. There is another version of this engine that is put into the SuperCrew models. This enhanced model gets around 292 horsepower, and produces around 320 ft lbs of torque.

The next model in our lineup is the 5.4L V8. This motor is geared towards towing and hauling. It puts out around 310 horsepower, which is enough to pass virtually anyone on the highway. This thing also puts out a massive 365 ft lb of torque, which means you will be able to tow any trailer imaginable. Drivers of the Ford with this can expect gas mileage numbers around 11 miles per gallon for stop-and-go traffic inside of the city, and 16 miles per gallon for straightforward highway driving. This engine represents the highest form of performance. It is also a carryover from the previous year. However, Ford has decided to do away with the flare-side and step-side models. Now people who want this truck will have to get used to the style-side model.

Day Trading For a Living?

Is it possible to day trade for a living? Considering the fact that many people have earned well into the millions of dollars from day trading, it would be safe to say that it is definitely possible to earn huge income from day trading. But, it is also important to note that day trading is for the serious investor.

This is not an easy process and it takes a great deal of work to succeed at this. This work entails performing a great deal of research across the entire stock market spectrum. This is a critical point because day trading decisions should rarely be based on looking at a small fraction of the market.

Online Marketing

Stock trading involves picking a stock that is currently at a low price per share and then selling it when it increases in value. The time frame for this strategy is essentially completely open. That is, you can purchase the stock and hold it for a few years before selling it. However, with day trading, you would perform your sales in a much more rapid manner. In some instances, you would buy and sell the stock in the same day.

Day Trading For a Living?

If you invest a great deal of money and earn a small profit on it, the profit will be quantified by the high amount of the initial investment. For example, investing ,000 in a stock in the morning and selling at the close of the day for ,300 is a nice profit for one day's work: 0. Of course, the possibility to earn more is there but so is the potential to lose a great deal of money. Again, day trading is a complex and difficult process. That is why a clear understanding of what it is one is investing in is critical.

This is why it is important to have access to an excellent stock picking software or platform that can help deliver expansive statistics on the market. From this information, one can make a much more well informed decision. This, in turn, will add to the potential to succeed with your trades. Clearly, if you want to engage in day trading for a living you will need to make profits on the bulk of your trades. You simply would not be able to do this for a living if you were losing money on the bulk of your trades. Once again, this is why it is necessary to have a solid software program that can help you make better informed and, hopefully, more successful trades.

A Stock Assault 2.0 would be one of the better programs to work with. Such a program will launch an expansive technical analysis of the market and present that information. No, it does not make prediction or pretend to be a virtual stock market guru. Instead, it is a logical device designed to help promote successful day trading decisions. While this may seem like a simple goal on the surface, it is the primary means in which many day traders are able to be successful in their venture.

Day Trading For a Living?

Are you tired of scraping by at your day job? Why not get into the stock trading and make some money the easy way... with the guidance of artificial intelligence! Check out Stock Assault 2.0 completely risk free for 60 days at http://www.Your-DayTradingRobot.com

How Does Marketing Create and Satisfy Consumer Needs?

A. Marketing merely reflects the needs and wants of customers. B. Marketing shapes consumer needs and wants.

Part A

Online Marketing

'Marketing merely reflects the needs and wants of customers.' We all need to eat, drink and sleep and reproduce, this is all part of who we are as human beings. Therefore at the basic level companies will strive to satisfy these functions and keep doing so by once in a while showing advertisements that tells the public that they are around and can provide the products they need.

How Does Marketing Create and Satisfy Consumer Needs?

The other aspect is that needs vary depending on what country you live in. "For example a consumer in the United States may need food but may want a hamburger, french fries and a soft drink and a person that lives in Mauritius that needs food may want a mango, rice, lentils and beans. Wants are shaped by our society." The other part is wants, everybody can want something but only a few has the means to acquire it. A good example would be that everyone wants to eat out at expensive restaurants everyday but in reality only very few people can actually afford that lifestyle. This is why various segments have been created to target different groups and classes of people.

Marketers must therefore continually be creating and developing attractive products and then in turn devising a brilliant marketing strategy to win the consumer over to buy their product over other competing products. Companies strive to retain their customer base by delivering value and satisfaction from their products and this is formulated in consumers' minds as a combination of service, quality and price. Some consumers would not mind paying a higher price for an item or service if they received very good service.

This is all part of what a consumer's expectations on a product are, if these perceived expectations are met time after time then they become a loyal customer to that particular company. We as people like consistency and if a marketer provides consistent service in addition to great products and price then we will keep on going back for years. A good example would be Ben's Chili Bowl located in Washington DC. It is an eatery that has been in business for decades and the fact that it had kept so many loyal customers is because they have offered consistent service and great food over the years and people who used to go there to eat as kids still go there as adults. They even have patrons fly into Washington DC just to experience their food and service. Companies also create brands and these brands have an effect on people's purchasing habits.

These brands can mean several aspects of the company combined to form a perception in the consumer's mind such as products, services, information and experiences. The more unique and interesting a brand the better it will perform. One brand that comes to mind is the Coach Company that manufactures accessories in the retail sector. They produce items such as handbags, purses, belts and other items. Coach has built a strong brand name for themselves by being unique in their style and service and this is primarily the reason that customers create a high demand for their products. This has also allowed the company to maintain an above average price for their products compared with their competitors with the knowledge that consumers would pay that higher price. Segmentation is another way that companies target the consumer to satisfy their needs and companies use this technique to target where they should market their products. There are various criteria that companies use to segment their products and some of them are geographic, demographic, psycho graphic and behavioral.

They would use factors such as how populated and area is or how wealthy the population of a specific area is and target products that fit that mold. This has proved to be a very successful tactic for companies in marketing. Marketing channels are also used by companies to reach their consumers. They use three types of marketing channels which are communications, distribution and service channels. Communications is important to get the company's message out to the public and this could be in many forms such as the radio, television, the internet, posters and the like. They also need to distribute their products to the consumer and this means they will need a physical location like a store, or be a wholesaler and have others retail your products for you and also sell your products on the internet. Service channels are needed to effect transactions with the consumers and these could be banks for credit card purchases and transportation companies such as UPS to deliver the products to homes and businesses.

Marketing has relied on four marketing skills and tools and they are the sales force, advertising, sales promotion and marketing research, they must also use brand building, customer relations, telemarketing and others to make their product selling become reality. Companies must also function ethically and honestly to serve the consumer in the best possible manner. Marketing in the United States is unique in the world because it has evolved and changed over the years to blend in with the capitalistic society we live in in the US. This also means that some of the marketing we use in this country can only work with the credit system we currently have. This is not so in other parts of the world even in industrialized countries. So I would view marketing in the United States as one of the spokes in the wheel that makes our economy such a giant as it is today.

Part B

Regarding the second argument 'Marketing shapes consumer needs and wants.' I have to also agree with this statement. My reasons are many and varied. After seeing so many television commercials and advertisements both on the Internet and on newspapers I have concluded that some companies construct their ads to create a need in the consumer's mind even if originally they were not interested in the product. I took some time to research some of the words that advertisements commonly use and I found an interesting mix of words and phrases. The word 'free' is the most common denominator I found in the ads, free is used in combinations such as free home trial, free inspection, buy one get one free, free installation, free estimates, free parking, free demonstration and free consultation. The word free is usually a powerful catalyst that springs the consumer into buying that particular product or idea even though he or she might not need it. I think other terms also kind of bait people into buying things they don't need.

Terms such as 'no payments till 2010' or 'money back guarantee' 'no down payment' 'offer good while supplies last' help dissipate any doubts that the consumer may have and spur them on to make the purchase. "Because the goal is to get customers' attention, persuade and create demand, market segmentation has historically been based on variables that correlate to creating demand: geography, age, gender, income, education, occupation and other traditional demographics, as well as psychographics around personality, lifestyle, values and attitudes. It works because these attributes are helpful for defining how to effectively speak to different groups of people."

Some companies do act unethical in their advertising, for example I have seen some ads on the internet especially where companies would advertise a product and make it very appealing to the consumer then at the very bottom is tiny fonts the word 'restrictions apply' they would hide the link that takes you to where the restrictions are listed. So if you happen to buy that product without reading the fine print and something happens that you are not satisfied or want to return the item the company would refuse and make reference to their restriction policy. Other tactics that companies use to shape consumers needs and wants is to use celebrities or other famous people to sell their products. A good example of a company would be Nike. Nike teamed up with Michael Jordan to create marketing giant. One of the themes behind their partnership was to create the desire within consumers that if they wore Michael Jordan's sneakers they could play basketball or jump as high as him.

This was directed primarily towards the younger consumers and turned out to be a huge marketing success. Companies also take advantage of world events or changes in the economy to come out with new products. A good example is the ever increasing popularity of hybrid cars. This has been brought about by gas prices going up and the economy slowing down. However the increase in hybrid cars has led to a marked decrease of large SUV vehicles. In the past we used to associate hybrid cars with car companies such as Toyota and Honda, but nowadays companies such as Lincoln, Ford and others are coming out with hybrid vehicles. This has been a necessity of them to compete in today's changed car market.

However advertising is not the only force that drives the consumer. Most companies do a lot of research before releasing an advertisement in getting a feel of what the consumers really desire. There is a constant interaction with the public in studying what is in vogue at the time and also what brands people want to be associated with. I have always wondered at why companies come out with new models or new releases at such a quick pace. This tactic is basically mainly a tweak or an enhancement of the previous model or version in order to create the perception of a totally new product which in turn creates more demand for the product.

Good examples of these products would be software, Microsoft is especially good at coming out with new versions of their products. For example with the release of Microsoft Vista operating system it meant that people had to upgrade their computers also because their existing hardware could not support Microsoft Vista's requirements. In conclusion, newer firms tend to lean more towards creating needs because the public does not yet know about their products. Established companies are more interested in fulfilling the existing needs of consumers. These companies are already known and their products have already being deemed essential to their lives so they would continue buying their products even with little or no advertisement.

How Does Marketing Create and Satisfy Consumer Needs?

This article was done by me at the University of Maryland last October 2008. I wanted to share it because me and my husband just launched our new business online shopping website associated with amazon http://www.freetownmall.com and I thought it ironic that I did an article on marketing as this is our quest now to get our business off the ground.

Marketing Online - 8 Types of Internet Marketing

The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of all times. Through websites and email we are able to operate a business, network, advertise and keep in touch with our customers. If you do not have funds for a large marketing campaign, you may want to try internet marketing. It is less costly than TV, radio or printed ads, but many products do sell through Internet marketing.

Internet Marketing differs from print advertising and person-to-person marketing, but there are quite a few strategies to reach customers and get them to buy online. Here are a few of the more popular and effective online marketing techniques:

Online Marketing

1. The more traffic your Website receives, the more sales you are likely to close. One way to increase traffic to your site is through SEO (search engine optimization). This means your Website is clear of any obstacles that would deflect traffic and has plenty of keywords and metatags to attract search engines. I suggest you hire someone who knows how to write in code language and create style sheets rather than set up your own website through one of the templates offered by email providers.

2. Another way to bring more traffic to your site is by using pay per click programs where you create ads and link them to keywords. Both Yahoo and Google have these programs available. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad. The rate may be from two cents to hundreds of dollars per click. The more you pay per click the higher your ad appears in the search engines.

3. Google AdSense is a program that allows you to generate revenue by placing other people's text or image ads on your website and in turn have your ad appear on the pages of sites related to your product or service. You can filter out your competitor's ad so it does not appear on your Website. AdSense puts your ad all over the Web and creates links back to your site which increases your ranking in the search engines. These are not pop up ads that open a box or new screen while you are trying to read the text of a Website. Web page, the hyped up ad remains and may be hard to close. Pop up ads are annoying and along with spamming, they are the worst marketing schemes available.

4. Banner Ads are usually animated, colorful graphics that go horizontally across the top of a Web page. Sky-scraper Ads are similar but they run vertically on the left or right side of a page. Both ads link to another Website (yours) and entice the visitor to leave the page they are on to see what the other site has to offer. These are losing popularity because people don't enjoy being distracted by the movement. Ads that don't move or talk are more effective.

5. E-commerce newsletters allow us to develop relationships with our clients and let them know when we invent something they may be interested in. You may start with just a few names and email addresses asking those folks to forward your newsletter (it should have a link to a permission-based sign up form) to their friends and urge them to sign up. Before long you have a new client base to market your product. You will not be spamming since everyone on your list has given you permission to email them.

6. Online magazines offer ad space for a fee (depending upon the magazine's popularity and traffic) and may appear for the duration of the current issue of the magazine. By selecting a magazine that relates to your product you are able to direct your ad to your target market rather than to a generic audience.

7. Online city guides or industry directories such as Hellometro.com and CitySearch.com are Yellow Pages on the Internet instead of in print. They feature businesses in a particular area. For example, if someone in Atlanta is looking for a toy store, they may use the search engine to browse the online guide and find all the toy stores within a 10 mile radius of their zip code. In addition to the general listing which are many times free, you may purchase an ad for a related page.

8. Website Lead Generation provides you with qualified leads at a set price per lead. These are generated by telemarketing companies who do cold calling to find potential clients for you. Lead Generation Services guarantee a particular level of ROI (return on investment) and frees your staff of marketing efforts.

There are other types of internet marketing, but one thing they all lack is personal interaction with the potential client. You must convey your message with words and pictures to sell your product. Therefore, your website needs to have a call to action. Ask the customer to buy your product or hire you. At the very least ask the visitor to click on a link and get more information. Make sure you have an easy payment system in place to handle credit card purchases. A frustrated customer will take their online business elsewhere.

No matter what online marketing strategy you use, make sure it produces enough sales to cover the ad costs and make a profit. I wish you well in your business.

Different Types of Marketing

If you want your company to succeed, at some point you will need to begin marketing your products or services. The old adage that the worst type of advertising is no advertising is still true. No matter what your marketing budget may be, there are many different types of marketing that you can take advantage of. Let's take a look at a few of the more proven techniques that combine low cost with major results.

Online Marketing

Online Marketing

Online marketing has opened up incredible avenues for small businesses. Thanks to companies like Google and Overture, you can place ads for your company right along side the big guns at competitive prices. Never before has it been easier to market your business than it is right now.

Different Types of Marketing

New forms of online marketing are also making headway. Online video ads are easy and cheap to shoot and give you the kind of exposure that was previously limited to expensive national television campaigns. With low production costs and reasonable pricing, you can run an online video campaign at a fraction of the cost of traditional advertising.

Offline Marketing

The benefits of traditional marketing cannot be overlooked in our digital age. Many companies are reaping the benefits of combining online and offline marketing techniques. For example, you can use direct mail or local advertising to drive potential customers to your site. This is a great and proven combination that results in increased traffic and better conversions.

You can actually save money on print campaigns by relying on your website to do the actual selling while the print ad can function as a pointer. You'll save money using less words while building brand awareness. Radio ads are still a proven way to increase awareness of your company. If you are new to radio marketing, try placing a sample ad with a local station. They'll be able to assist you in producing your first ad until you get the hang of the process.

Word of Mouth Marketing

Word of mouth is still one of the most powerful forms of advertising on the planet. The best word of mouth comes from satisfied customers. Go the extra mile for them, and really work towards building relationships with your customers. This will result not only in more leads but they'll keep coming back to you in the future. Try running special promotions or coupons for these regular customers to help them feel that they are special and you'll really be able to continue to build on these relationships in the future.

The best marketing strategies take advantage of all the different types of advertising. By spreading your ad dollars around you can be assured of greater success and better interaction with the public. Start small by combining a special promotion that will run both in print and online avenues at the same time. You can keep track of the success of each method by using coupon codes to see which form suits your company the best.

Viral Marketing Vs Conventional Marketing

To use your marketing tools correctly you have to know the difference between them, as well as how to use each tool in a way that yields maximum effect. In this article we will discuss the difference between viral and conventional marketing, and the appropriate ways to use them.

-Viral marketing is not online ads

Online Marketing

In contrast to traditional marketing, the aim of the viral marketing campaign is not to just post regular ads online. The goal is to create an interesting message that mentions your product and will be equally interesting if it didn't. This message because it is so interesting will compel the audience to share it with their friends, spreading the word about your product in the process.

Viral Marketing Vs Conventional Marketing

-Successful Viral marketing is a complete process

Unlike a traditional marketing massage, viral marketing enables the customer to actually buy what you are advertising about on the spot, just after seeing your viral massage. This is done by simply placing an online purchase link somewhere along with your viral massage. This is never that easy in the case of conventional marketing.

-In viral marketing you give away stuff for free

You spend a lot during conventional marketing, but in viral marketing you give free stuff to the audience. If what you give them is good, they will tell their friends about you. If they don't then you didn't lose a lot, especially comparing the costs with those of conventional marketing.

-How to use both viral and conventional marketing.

Viral is great if you are just starting your business. When you don't have the budget for a conventional campaign and you desperately need the publicity, viral is the way to go.

On the other hand, if your target audience is unlikely to be internet savvy or can't be reached by a viral campaign, using conventional marketing is the way to go. However, viral and conventional marketing are not mutually exclusive. You can use conventional marketing to build awareness about your product then supplement it with a viral campaign to generate constant buzz and media exposure.

Knowing the difference between viral and conventional campaigns can be a great aid to you when you are deciding on which route you want to take with a new product.
